Essen, April 10, 2024 – Cusp Capital welcomes Dr. Carolin Althoff and Dr. Maximilian Rowoldt to its partnership. Together with Matthias Müller, who had already joined Cusp Capital last year, as well as founding partners Christian Winter, Helmut Klawitter, and Jan Sessenhausen, they now form the new partner and shareholder structure of the software and technology investor based in Essen.

Dr. Carolin Althoff positions Cusp Capital as thought leader in ESG

Dr. Carolin Althoff has been an investor at Cusp Capital since 2022 and focuses particularly on digital solutions in the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) domain, one of the fund's core investment theses. Additionally, she works on continuously expanding the ESG structures within both the fund and the portfolio companies. Furthermore, she supports the international ESG VC ecosystem, for example, as a speaker for the cross-industry training initiative "Leading in ESG" and as Steering Committee Member of Venture ESG. Carolin's career began with a Ph.D. in Sustainability & Corporate Governance, followed by consulting a board member of various publicly listed corporations and further experience in management consulting.

Dr. Maximilian Rowoldt shapes Cusp Capital’s investment theses regarding SaaS and lower-income solutions

Maximilian Rowoldt has been part of the Cusp Capital team since the very beginning and has been actively involved in relevant investments and the development of the fund's investment theses in recent years. His current focus topics include industry-specific SaaS solutions and digital solutions for financially challenged consumers and frontline workers. Maximilian started his career at an international strategy consulting firm and was part of the investment team at Tengelmann Ventures before the start of Cusp Capital. He is a CFA Charterholder and holds a Ph.D. in empirical capital market research.

Matthias Müller has held leading positions at Rocket Internet for the past 12 years, most recently as a Partner at Global Founders Capital, and was responsible for early investments in renowned startups such as Personio, SoSafe, and SevDesk.

Preparation for upcoming investments and funds

With the additional partners, the early-stage investor positions itself for 10-15 more investments within the current fund as well as for upcoming fund generations. "With Matthias joining our team and now with Carolin and Maximilian, we are adding three exceptionally strong investor profiles to our partnership," says Christian Winter, investor and founding partner at Cusp Capital. Cusp Capital emerged in 2021 as a spin-off of a team from successful early-stage investor Tengelmann Ventures and currently manages funds totaling approximately 280 million euros. Recently, the Cusp Capital team invested in acto, an AI solution for medium-sized businesses, VIDA, software for managing ESG risks for infrastructure investors, and Taclia, a digital software toolkit for SMEs, as well as several other undisclosed startups. With the acquisition of the investment immerok by software company Confluent, the first portfolio company was sold successfully.

Dr. Carolin Althoff positioniert Cusp Capital als Vorreiter im Bereich ESG

Dr. Carolin Althoff ist seit 2022 Investorin bei Cusp Capital und fokussiert sich innerhalb der Investmentthesen des Fonds insbesondere auf digitale Lösungen im Themenfeld ESG (Environmental, Social und Governance). Sie arbeitet zusätzlich am kontinuierlichen Ausbau der ESG-Strukturen sowohl innerhalb des Fonds als auch den Portfoliounternehmen. Darüber hinaus unterstützt sie das internationale ESG VC-Ökosystem z.B. als Referentin der industrieübergreifenden Trainingsinitiative „Leading in ESG“ sowie als Steering Committee Member von VentureESG. Dr. Maximilian Rowoldt gestaltet maßgeblich Investmentthesen im Bereich SaaS und Lösungen für finanziell benachteiligte Gruppen

Maximilian Rowoldt ist seit Gründung des Fonds Teil des Teams von Cusp Capital und war in den vergangenen Jahren federführend an relevanten Investments sowie der Entwicklung der Investmentthesen des Fonds beteiligt. Zu seinen aktuellen Schwerpunkten zählen insbesondere industrie-spezifische SaaS-Lösungen und digitale Lösungen für finanziell benachteiligte Verbraucher-und Frontline-Mitarbeiter. Maximilian begann seine Karriere bei einer internationalen Strategieberatung und war vor Gründung von Cusp Capital Teildes Investment Teams von Tengelmann Ventures. Er ist CFA Charterholder und hat im Bereich der empirischen Kapitalmarktforschung promoviert.
Matthias Müller war in den vergangenen 12 Jahren in führenden Positionen für Rocket Internet tätig, zuletzt als Partner bei Global Founders Capital und verantwortete unter anderem frühe Investments in heute international bekannte Unternehmen wie Personio, SoSafe und SevDesk.
